Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority is responsible to construct, operate and maintain bridge projects in the state. The authority operates and maintains the Jamestown Verrazano Bridge, Mount Hope Bridge, the Newport Pell Bridge, Route 138 through Jamestown and the Sakonnet River Bridge.

Bridges in Rhode Island

Rhode Island encompasses many bridges. Some of the major bridges in Rhode Island include:

Newport Pell Bridge: The Newport Pell Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in New England and the eightieth longest in the world. It is a steel suspension bridge that is 11,248 feet in length and spans the East Passage of Narragansett Bay^[2].

Mount Hope Bridge: The Mount Hope Bridge is a 6,130-foot long steel suspension bridge, the first in the United States to incorporate artistic lighting in its design.

Stillwater Viaduct Bridge: The Stillwater Viaduct Bridge is a 450-foot long, three-ribbed, open spandrel, concrete arch bridge.

Jamestown Parkway: The Jamestown Parkway is a four-lane divided highway traversing Conanicut Island.

Sakonnet River Bridge: The Sakonnet River Bridge is a concrete and steel bridge and on its northern side, there is also a separated 13 foot wide path for cyclists and pedestrians.
